Have you ever walked out of an interview feeling like the interviewer was more lost than you? That’s exactly what happened to me when I interviewed for an SDE-1 new grad position at Amazon in Canada. The 3-hour loop was a disaster from the start. The first two interviewers seemed completely disinterested, and it showed in their lack of preparation. The first guy, an SDE-II, didn’t even know what to ask, messed up the behavioral section, and didn’t know what the final outcome of the LLD question should be. To make matters worse, he was muting himself frequently and seemed to be asking someone else for input on how to wrap up the interview.
The second interviewer was just as bad, rushing through the process and giving me a 5-minute monologue about the problem statement. When I tried to ask follow-up questions, he brushed me off, saying we should stick to the initial requirements. I was left feeling confused and frustrated.
What really took the cake, though, was when they rejected me for a different position altogether. I know I didn’t do great in the second round, but you’d expect more from a company like Amazon. It made me wonder if their recruitment process is just as disorganized as the interviewers.
