As researchers, we’ve all been there – stuck without access to crucial data for our academic papers. That’s exactly what happened to a Reddit user who needed Bloomberg’s ESG Disclosure Scores for companies in the NIFTY50 index from 2016 to 2025. The catch? Their institution didn’t have a Bloomberg Terminal, and it was way out of their budget.
The user took to Reddit, pleading for help from anyone with access to the scores. They needed the company name, Bloomberg ticker, and the ESG disclosure score – a simple ask, but a crucial one for their research.
This got me thinking: how often do we come across roadblocks like this in our research journeys? And what can we do to overcome them?
In this age of data-driven research, it’s essential to have access to the right tools and data. But what about those who can’t afford it? Shouldn’t research be about the pursuit of knowledge, not the depth of our pockets?
