I recently came across a Reddit post that got me thinking. The author shared their experience of an AI/ML internship interview, which left me wondering – is it too much to expect from an intern?
The interviewee was grilled on core machine learning concepts, including PSA, Random Forest, and XG Boost. They were asked to explain these complex topics in-depth, which is a tall order for anyone, let alone an intern. To make matters worse, the coding test was a 30-minute affair that included advanced data structures and algorithms (DSA) questions. The cherry on top was that the interviewer didn’t even get to deep learning and LLM questions due to time constraints.
I’m not saying it’s impossible to ask tough questions, but is this level of scrutiny necessary for a 6-month internship? If it were a full-time job, I’d understand the thoroughness, but for an internship, it seems excessive.
What do you think? Should internship interviews be more relaxed, or is it necessary to push candidates to their limits to find the best fit? Share your thoughts in the comments!
P.S. If you’re preparing for an AI/ML interview, it’s essential to brush up on your machine learning fundamentals and practice those coding skills. You never know what the interviewer might throw at you!
