As we dive deeper into the world of AI-powered search results, a new layer of SEO is emerging. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is already impacting search engine results pages (SERPs) and altering the way we approach search engine optimization (SEO).
Our experiments with GEO across multiple client sites have shown that even top-ranking pages can lose visibility if they’re not cited in AI Overviews. On the other hand, pages with lower organic rankings are gaining more traffic thanks to their inclusion in these summaries.
So, what can we do to adapt to this new landscape? From our experience, it helps to:
* Provide extremely clear and direct answers early in the content
* Use well-structured formats like lists, Q&A, and headings that align with search intent
* Implement schema markup like FAQ, HowTo, or Product that’s actually picked up
* Get mentions or visibility on trustworthy sources like Reddit or niche press
We’re also exploring ways to track GEO-specific performance, such as manually comparing AI Overviews with our SERPs, monitoring quote-style extractions, and checking for shifts in CTR even when position stays the same.
As GEO continues to evolve, it’s essential to stay ahead of the curve. Have you started integrating GEO into your SEO workflows? Have you seen any measurable impact from AI Overviews, good or bad? Share your experiences and insights with us!
