A recent Reddit post sparked a conversation about the lack of realistic, mature female wizard characters. The post featured an incredible artwork of a strong, confident woman wielding magic. It got me thinking – why don’t we see more of these characters?
In fantasy fiction, female wizards are often portrayed as young, inexperienced, and overly sexualized. They’re relegated to secondary roles, with their male counterparts taking center stage. But it’s time to change that.
We need more female wizards who are strong, capable, and complex. Women who have lived through struggles and emerged victorious. Women who are not defined by their physical appearance, but by their intelligence, courage, and wit.
Let’s create more characters like this in our stories, games, and art. Let’s give women the opportunity to shine as powerful wizards, and redefine the fantasy genre in the process.
