The Joy of Experimenting with AI: Lessons from a Casual Project

Have you ever wondered what’s possible with AI, but didn’t know where to start? I did, and that’s why I embarked on a casual AI project with multiple open-source Large Language Models (LLMs). The goal wasn’t to make money or attract traffic, but to explore the possibilities of AI without any commercial pressure.

Our team had zero experience in AI applications, but we didn’t let that stop us. We jumped into building, and that’s exactly what I’d recommend: start building, and don’t overthink it. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn from just trying.

We validated our ideas using open-source tools, which was crucial for keeping costs low. We relied on free credits and community support, and I’m grateful to the team at Chutes for making this possible.

One of the most important lessons I learned was to start promoting your project as soon as possible. We barely told anyone about our app, and as expected, nobody used it. But for us, that wasn’t a problem – our goal was to understand what’s possible with LLMs and prepare ourselves for future projects.

During our experiments, we used various LLMs to generate xiangsheng scripts, images, and even videos. We encountered some challenges, like context length limitations, but it was a great learning experience.

If you’re interested in exploring AI, I’d love to share our open-source repo and live demo with you. Just DM me, and I’ll be happy to share more.

Remember, the most important thing is to start building and experimenting with AI. You never know what you’ll discover.
