As I’m about to finish my business degree next April, I’ve been exploring Master’s programs in Statistics, with the goal of transitioning into Financial Engineering or quantitatively based banking work.
Given my background, I’m wondering if I have the necessary prerequisites to apply for these programs.
During my undergraduate studies, I’ve taken courses in Econometrics, Linear Optimization, Applied Math (covering Non-linear Dynamic Optimization and Dynamic Systems), Stochastic Calculus, and Intermediate Statistics (including Inference, ANOVA, and Regression). I’ve also developed programming skills in C++ and Python, and taken online courses in Ordinary Differential Equations and Partial Differential Equations.
Additionally, my finance and applied econ courses have exposed me to statistical concepts, even if indirectly.
So, do I have a good foundation to apply for a Master’s in Statistics, or should I take more courses to improve my chances? Am I totally out of my depth here?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice.
