From Statistics to Data Science: Can This Degree Get Me There?

I’m about to start university, and I’m feeling a bit lost. I originally wanted to pursue a career in Data Science, but I didn’t get into that program. Instead, I got admitted into Statistics, and I’m planning to do my Bachelor’s in Statistics, followed by a Master’s in Data Science or Machine Learning.

I’ve got a mix of core and elective courses lined up, including Introduction to Statistics, Probability Theory, Regression Analysis, and Statistical Machine Learning. My questions are: will this degree help me become a Data Scientist? Are these courses useful? And what else should I focus on while I’m in university to build a strong foundation for a career in Data Science?

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s taken a similar path. Did you start in Statistics and then move into Data Science? What skills or areas did you focus on to get where you are today?

For me, I know I need to work on my programming skills, take on personal projects, and maybe even internships. But what else can I do to set myself up for success in Data Science?

Any advice would be amazing!
