From Microbiology to Business-Focused Data Science

From Microbiology to Business-Focused Data Science

As a microbiology researcher, I never thought I’d be interested in the business world. My days were filled with -omics, growth curves, and molecular techniques. But I’ve come to realize that my skills in data analysis could be the bridge that takes me away from biology.

I’ve got experience with R and Excel, and I’m eager to learn SQL and PowerBI. But I know that making the transition to a business-focused data science role won’t be easy. I’m worried that recruiters will dismiss my ‘transferrable skills’ and tell me I don’t have the experience they’re looking for.

So, how do I get job-ready for GCC business-focused data science roles? Is there anyone out there who has made the switch and can share some advice? I’d love to hear from you.

It’s not just about the technical skills, though. I know I need to learn more about the business world and understand what makes a company tick. I’m willing to put in the work, but I need guidance on where to start.

If you’re someone who has successfully made the transition, please share your story. What were the biggest challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them? What skills did you find most valuable in your new role?

Let’s help each other out and make this transition a little easier.
