Hey there! I’ve been out of the tech loop for a while, taking a sabbatical to explore a different career path. It’s been two years now, and I’m thinking of dipping my toes back into the industry. The thing is, I’m not interested in working for a giant FAANG company or getting caught up in the AI hype. I’m looking for a smaller, more laid-back company that focuses on ‘boring’ software with a ‘boring’ tech stack. You know, the kind of place where I can work on PHP projects without the pressure of endless screenings and assignments.
So, I’m curious – what’s the current state of small, local software companies? Are they still a haven for those of us who want a more relaxed work environment, or are they too inundated with applicants to offer a peaceful experience? Would I still have to go through multiple rounds of interviews for a mid-level position, or can I find a place that values simplicity and a lower profile?
I’d love to hear from anyone with experience in this area. Thanks!
