Finding an Affordable CPU Server Provider for Machine Learning

As a machine learning intern, I’ve hit a roadblock – our usual server is down, and I need a remote solution to finish my projects. My boss has agreed to provide some funds, but I’m not sure where to start. I need a server with at least 16 CPU threads, running 24/7, on Ubuntu, and with Python and Conda pre-installed. The catch? I have a budget of 200€ for the month.

I’m not an expert in using remote servers, so ease of use is a major factor. I know how to use SSH for remote connection, but I’m not sure how to close the connection without ending the running task. If you’ve had experience with remote servers, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

In this post, we’ll explore some affordable options for CPU server providers that fit my requirements. Whether you’re a fellow intern or a seasoned ML practitioner, you might find this helpful if you’re looking for a temporary solution for your machine learning projects.
