When working on a research project for a large transportation client, I stumbled upon a huge dictionary for asset management. The problem was, many attributes associated with different assets were very vague. To move forward, the client needs to decide on an attribute level whether the attribute is required, mandatory, or optional, and why collecting that attribute is important. This led me to wonder: can we define a framework against which each attribute could be evaluated, allowing the client to clearly define their requirements?
As civil engineers, we’re proposing a solution to this challenge as part of a PhD project. The goal is to create a set of questions or a framework that helps evaluate each attribute, considering factors like its importance, relations, and more. This would enable the client to make informed decisions about their asset management attributes.
