I recently came across a Microsoft paper that had many data scientists worried about their job security. But after digging deeper, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief. The paper suggests that AI is good at tasks like gathering information and writing reports, but these aren’t the core responsibilities of a data scientist. In fact, data analysis – the meat of our job – is much less impacted by AI. The paper even shows that AI is mostly used to assist with analysis, not replace it.
I think this is great news for our profession. It means we can focus on the more advanced tasks that separate data scientists from data analysts. And who knows, maybe AI can even help us with some of the more mundane tasks, freeing up our time for more strategic work.
What do you think, fellow data scientists? Have you read the paper? Do you agree with my take?
