Changing Careers: Is Data Engineering a Safer Bet?

Hey, have you ever felt like you’ve invested so much in a career, only to realize it’s not for you? That’s exactly what happened to me when I decided to leave dentistry behind and pursue a career in data analytics. Now, as I’m nearing the end of my bachelor’s degree in data analytics, I’m faced with a new dilemma – should I continue on to a master’s in data science, or explore other options?

The truth is, the data science field is highly competitive, and the thought of spending 2-3 years on a master’s degree only to face intense competition in the job market is daunting. That’s why I’m considering alternative paths, like data engineering. But is it a safer bet?

I’ve heard that data engineering is less competitive than data science, and that it’s possible to master the skills needed for the job through online courses. But is that really true? Can I really build a successful career in data engineering without breaking the bank or spending years in school?

For me, the goal is to find a career that’s not only fulfilling but also secure. I want to know that I can land a job and keep it, without constantly worrying about being replaced or outsourced. So, I’m turning to you – have you considered a career in data engineering? Is it really less competitive than data science? Can you share your experiences or insights with me?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, and any advice you might have for someone looking to make a career change.
