I’ve been thinking about AI’s recent progress, and I have to agree with the sentiment that we’ve officially entered the trough of disillusionment. At least, that’s how I feel. After using GPT5 for a while, it’s clear that the limitations holding AI back haven’t moved forward in a meaningful way. Don’t get me wrong, I still think AI is incredibly valuable, but we need to acknowledge that we’ve hit a plateau.
The hype cycle is real, and we’re now in the phase where the excitement has worn off, and we’re faced with the harsh realities of AI’s limitations. The end of scaling and model size benefits is a significant hurdle, and it’s likely to take a while to overcome.
So, how about you? Have you felt the same sense of disillusionment with AI’s progress? Or are you still optimistic about its potential? Share your thoughts!
