A Non-Technical Path to a Higher Paying Job in Generative AI

As a linguistics graduate with a passion for theoretical approaches, I’ve always been fascinated by the potential of generative AI. But, I’ve come to realize that coding isn’t my forte, despite multiple attempts to learn. What I do have, however, is a strong background in linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive science. And I’ve gained valuable experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt curations, as well as red teaming – all without needing to write a single line of code.

Now, I’m looking to take my skills to the next level by pursuing a master’s degree that will help me dive deeper into the world of generative AI. My goal is to work with companies that are focused on improving the emotional intelligence of AI models. But, I’m not sure which field to choose from among the social sciences I’m interested in.

The Power of Interdisciplinary Knowledge

I believe that linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive science can all contribute to creating more advanced generative AI models. By combining these disciplines, I can bring a unique perspective to the industry. But, I need to choose the right master’s program to get there.

Is a Computational Linguistics Certificate the Key?

I’ve been considering a computational linguistics certificate from San Jose State, San Diego State, or Montclair State University. But, I’m not sure if it will give me a competitive edge in the job market. Has anyone with experience in these certificates seen a significant impact on their career?

Breaking into the Industry

My ultimate goal is to land a higher-paying position in the generative AI industry, without limiting myself to a specific role. I want to keep my options open and be able to transition into different positions as the industry evolves. With the right master’s degree and certificate, I’m confident that I can achieve my goals.
